Safety Ambassadors
Summary
An Indivisible KC Safety Ambassador is responsible for maintaining a safe and welcoming environment at events, coordinating medical support when necessary, and assisting attendees with directions and logistics. Ambassadors must complete safety training and follow established procedures to ensure peaceful activities. Lead ambassadors will oversee coordination and communication with local authorities, with safety support provided on an as-needed basis, typically about once per month.
Description: A Safety Ambassador has three basic functions:
Provide a safe and welcoming environment for individuals who will be participating in Indivisible KC demonstrations, meetings or marches.
Aid in coordinating necessary medical personnel for mass meetings, particularly in inclement weather.
Aid participants in directions in and around the event, suggest parking sites, location of toilets, and direct press representatives to the appropriate Indivisible Kansas City spokespeople.,
Participate in the necessary training provided by Indivisible KC in how to maintain peaceful, nonviolent activities at Indivisible Kansas City actions. At a minimum, be familiar with Indivisible Kansas City’s Safety Team Event Procedures (July, 2025). Recommended reading also includes “Streetwise & Steady—A Workbook for Action Peacekeepers or Event Marshals”.
When: Safety support should be on an “as needed” basis, likely no more than once per month. Safety training will be provided when a safety ambassador is recruited before a needed action.
How: A lead safety ambassador will coordinate at any action and will have responsibility for the direction (where to station/who to contact/how to coordinate any needed interventions) of the other safety ambassadors
Who: One or more designated individuals will be lead safety ambassadors and have responsibility for communication with the Kansas City, MO Police Department as needed.
